K. Surjit Singh, Former Chief Town Planner - Haryana
Late Kanwar Surjit Singh, Fellow and Founder Secretary General of ISPER (now KSS-ISPER), was the expert of combination of Geography and Spatial Planning. He worked in various capacities in the State Government, Haryana and its para spatial agencies and retired as the Chief Town Planner.
His unparalleled expertise in (Preparation of GIS Based Regional Plans, Master Plans, Development Plans, Zonal Plans), Planning and Development of Industrial Growth Centers, Industrial Model Townships (IMT), Theme Industrial Parks (Food Parks, Technology Parks, Footwear Parks, Cluster of Agricultural Implements, Gem and Jewelry Park), Technology City has catapulted the State as a front runner in industrial infrastructure in the country. Planning of Industrial Model Township at Manesarand Bawal, Saha and Barwala, Kundli- Manesar-PalwalExpressway, Ambala-Rohtak-Bawal (ARB) Expressway, Development Schemes, Framing the Zoning Regulations for the use of the land and of the buildings, Laying of space norms for the social infrastructure and standards of development brought him to the professional of high stature. Valuing his extraordinary contributions during the service, he was honored thrice by Governor of Haryana on independence days (1989, 1990 and 1991).
He sustained his dynamism even after his completion of government service. In the journey of building ISPER, he led flagship projects in Spatial Planning, Research and Watershed Development. Activities and Charitable causes such as skill development programmes for women empowerment, Awareness Campaigns on Environment, Health and Social Issues, organizing national and international conferences/seminars, capacity building programmes and publications. His life was a saga of a successful enterprise.
To perpetuate his legacy, the name of Kanwar Surjit Singh has been pre-fixed with the name of the ISPER, which is now Kanwar Surjit Singh Institute for Spatial Planning and Environment Research, India (KSS-ISPER).
